A laid-back coastal town, not a resort strip
Sanur has a village-like atmosphere and a much quieter pace than the west coast. It is a town where people live, rather than a strip built around nightlife. For anyone looking for a slower life by the beach, that difference matters more than any single amenity.
Easy access to the airport
Ngurah Rai International Airport is about 20 minutes away via the toll road — and Bali itself is a short flight from most Australian capitals. For people who plan to travel back and forth to see family, that combination is the practical difference between a second home you actually use and one you do not.
Excellent healthcare nearby
The new Bali International Hospital in Sanur is now open, offering medical services to international standards. For older buyers, this is often the single question that decides whether Bali is viable at all, and Sanur is where the answer changed.
Safe and genuinely walkable
The terrain is flat. There is a beachside pedestrian and bicycle path running more than seven kilometres. Traffic is low by Bali standards. Together those three things mean you can do a morning walk or a cycle without negotiating scooters — and you are not dependent on driving to have a full day.
A vibrant expat community
Sanur is an established hub for Australian retirees, with regular community events, social clubs and familiar faces. Moving somewhere new in your sixties is a different proposition when there is already a community that has done it.
